China and Australia: Towards a Strategic Partnership under CHAFTA

Abstract Australia and China are ready to steal the world‘s attention on their recent trade agreement. The trade ties between two countries will become a fundamental landmark to jump into a fruitful relation in the near future. Empowered by abundant energy resources, Australia has intensified their trade relation with China into the next important level. On the other side, China‘s rapid industrialization creates energy gap as their domestic production can‘t meet the demand. This condition had forced them to secure huge deal energy supply from other countries. This issue generates curiosity about the recent implemented trade agreement, named ChAFTA, could meet the expectations from both parties. Looking at the establishment of ChAFTA, this skripsi investigates and analyze the determinants from both countries domestic and international concerns. This writing argue that there are three primary factors that foster the initiation and implementation of ChAFTA, namely energy challenge, industrialization and high dependency on trade.
