ABSTRACT A conflict occurred in April 16 2011 in Setrojenar Village, Kebumen has raised public awareness towards agrarian conflict in Urutsewu. Post 2011, the tragedy has been celebrated annually in a mass prayer. Three years later, the alliance of Esbumus (Solidaritas Budaya untuk Masyarakat Urutsewu / Cultural Solidarity for Urutsewu) was founded as a new social movement with cultural performance considered as its main collective action. The objective of this study is to find out the media experience of Esbumus alliance activists, among various alternative media in each different movement. The research method used in this study is ethnography, in which it is expected to elaborate the media experience of the activists. In this study, the researcher is aimed to analyze various alternative media utilized and interpreted by the activists of Esbumus alliance. The researcher also analyzes the three constituting factors of collective identity, including issue, collective agenda, and experience. As the result, the researcher found three layers of collective identity, those are activist-artist, Urutsewu society, and survivors of the conflict. By looking at the relation between media and social movement, it can be concluded that the media experience of Esbumus alliance activists is not only the supporting and constituting factors of collective identity, but also a unique factor of new social movement in Urutsewu.
