Abstract Military involvement in politic is an unforgivable act in today's new wave of democratization process in developing countries. Actually not long time ago, majority of non western developing countries lived under military dominated government. Since its inception, Indonesian army has been deeply involved in political scene, by publishing various material New Order under Suharto tried to frame history to conceal and blur military involvement in politic. In historiography of Indonesian military history, army involvement in politic has been described, narrated as something beneficial even patriotic to upheld Indonesian sovereignty. This mini thesis does not pretend to offer new discoveries, instead this minithesis offer to give reader objective and realistic perspective of history of that involvement and strategies and political maneuver of army in influencing Indonesian political landscape. Data and information served may look obsolete but that does not in any way whatsoever reduce any relevance and researcher arrange them in new sort way to find a new particular pattern in army involvement in politic in particular period in political periodization based on prevailing govermental and political system of those days. In army, ever since it founding, there has been feeling that it has contributed lion to Indonesia Independence Revolution. whereas civilian politicians failed in institutionalizing civilian supremacy over military as manifested in liberal democracy values. Civilian politician to a degree interfered too much in military, only to find resistance from military itself, moreover Army felt much disappointment over policy and political choice of civilian politician. During period of liberal democracy threat of coup was an effective political weapon against civilian politicians. The success of army to enter political scene as functional group in parliament and the success of political doctrine of “ middle way that would be transformed into “ Dwifungsi ABRI ” , the emergence of Soekarno as both head of state and head of government, gradual weakening and then banning of political parties during effective martial law condition, leaving only Indonesian Communist Party as viable political party facing the army to wrestle influence over President Soekarno. Eventually the army felt compelled to eliminate both Soekarno and Communist Party to secure army political agenda. Elimination of President Soekarno and Soeharto ascendancy to power by coup brought about military dominated polity in Indonesia for the next three decades. Army with Dwifungsi ABRI was heavily involved in non military spheres, in the end it brought resistance from military officer groups itself, reinforced by student groups emboldened by aggravated economic conditions led to downfall to military regime. In Reformation, military involvement in non military sector is set to end gradually, civilian control
