ABSTRACT Since the fall of Zaydi Imamate and the establishment of a new republic in Yemen in 1962, the Zaydi muslims had been facing pressure and discrimination from the Yemeni government, who during that time kept a close relatioin with Saudi Arabia.By the end of 1990s, the Houthi family, one of the most prominent Zaydi family had succeded in mobilizing the Zaydis and their grieavance towards the Yemeni government. The Houthis then conducted their first insurgency towards the government of Yemen in 2004 after the Yemeni government decided to support USA in the global war on terrorism. After 6 years wars in Sa’da governorate and being involved in the overthorow of President Salih’s regime during the Arab Spring, the Houthis succesfully overthrowed President Mansour Hadi’s regime and take power in Yemen in early 2015. This research would further analyze factors that caused Houthi’s grievance and insurgency; how the Houthis family mobilized the conflict; and how they conducted the insurgency during 2004-2015.
