ABSTRACT The documentary film or non-fiction films known as activity "recording reality". The strength of the documentary is the reality and actuality. Through these powers can be used as delivering critical messages of the social problems. The documentary is already well known for themes of social problems. One of the film with the theme of social criticism is documentary JALANAN. This study wanted to see the critical message of the social problems experienced by the subject of the film as a street musician or buskers. By using qualitative content analysis of the messages expressed in the film is analyzed by category has been specified. Results of the study revealed that the film contains a critical message of various social problems such as social inequality, corruption, bureaucracy and social discrimination.
