2016 | Skripsi | SosiologiABSTRACT Jathilan is one of the Javanese arts that has long developed in its community and still exists to this day. Jathilan was originally meant to be performed in traditional rites. Today, however, Jathilan is performed in various events such as traditional events, thaksgivings, and the circumcision ceremonies. As a means to preserve this art, The Srunggo hamlet formed a Jathilan group called “Kudho Rumekso”. In every performance, this group features a trance scene which is caused by the mystical practices of the handler. Interestingly, both the handler and the performers who go into a trance are Muslims. Accordingly, it raises questions on the inheritance process of Jathilan and Islam’s accommodation on the mystical practices in Jathilan. The qualitative descriptive research is performed in Srunggo 1 Hamlet, Selopamioro, Imogiri, Bantul on the attempt to explore and answer the problems of research. The data are collected using the observation, interview and documentation techniques, and equipped with secondary data collected from relevant books. The informants for this research are the pioneers of Jathilan (community leaders, traditional leaders and religious leaders), the "Kudho Rumekso" Jathilan group (the leader, the handler and the members) and the local community. "Kudho Rumekso" Jathilan group features acculturation of Javanese and Islamic cultures. The mystical practices in Jathilan are some forms of acculturation which then received by the community through a process of accommodation. In each performance, Jathilan demonstrates mystical proceedings such as making offerings and burning incense to put the players into a trance, which has something to do with spirits. These practices are still carried out even though the majority of the "Kudho Rumekso" Jathilan group members are Muslims. Research findings show that the inheritance process of Jathilan in "Kudho Rumekso" can be seen from the public’s reception, the regeneration process, and the cultural values of Java. Each performance shows the acculturation of Javanese and Islamic cultures from the practices and rules that must be carried out, such as integrating the wirid and spells; and behavioral practices such as fasting. In addition to Javanese and Islamic acculturation, Islam's accommodations are also found in the lyrics of the songs used during the show. Javanese songs with Islamic nuances are sung as an accompaniment to the players into the trance scene. Keywords: mystical practices, Jathilan, Islam accomodation, inheritance process
