Eksistensi Upacara Adat Cing-cing Goling di Dusun Gedangan, Gunungkidul di Masa Kini:(The Existence of Traditional Ceremony Cing-cing Goling at Gedangan Village, Gunungkidul in the Modern Era)

ABSTRACT Salvation or Communal Feast is always conducted to increase the alertness and a sense of concern about danger and to obtain safety (Koentjaraningrat, 1964:145). Gedangan village which is located in Gedangrejo, Gunungkidul regency has salvation tradition named Cing-Cing Goling. The traditional ceremony of Cing-Cing Goling is closed by the Javanese belief and mystics such as incense and offerings. The activity is contradictory with the modern society. The developed context in the tradition should be developed. The research used qualitative method with ethnography approach. Subjectivity is not only looked from the visual things, but also digging what kind of meaning which is contained in it. The point from the ethnography approach is to understand the behaviour and the patterns of society related to the traditional ceremony context of Cing-Cing Goling. Given that the context of traditional ceremony Cing-Cing Goling is already exist since 15th century however it is survived until present or modern era where society has influenced by modern technology. That is why this method is entering the perception of another people to understand the meaning of Cing-Cing Goling Tradition as what is seen, felt, understood by the actor that is Gedangan Village Society. This research used Talcott Parson’s System Theory. Which analized the values in the traditional ceremony of Cing-Cing Goling. These values still exist because they have been an concensus in society. The second is Max Weber’s Social Action theory. This theory used to see the motivation and motive behind social agens. The alteration in the traditional ceremony Cing-Cing Goling is happened through the long process. The alteration pointed the alteration of entity, the alteration of value and the alteration of agent. The first meaning from the tradition is as celebration for the dam of Kali Dawang River which is finished by the ancestor. The next meaning, tradition is conducted as salvation media and gratitude for the plentiful harvest. The last meaning, tradition is conducted because it has been a social value and seen as a tourism commodity of the village. The effort to preserve traditional ceremony Cing-Cing Goling is still going. One of them is seen from the society who are still believing the myths or superstition in the traditional ceremony Cing-Cing Goling.
