ABSTRACT Social integrations are used to grow and develop among society in Yogyakarta. People are still tied up with strong appreciation of the various social norms that make it able to maintain the existence of a sense of solidarity as a cultural responsibility. Cultural responsibility has become one of the social capital that has been institutionalized in the society. The social capital became a kind of driving energy to a variety of social actions including those aimed to improve the common welfare, such as a community of traders in Imogiri traditional market. It is present in the midst of the market as a place to build social integration among traders. These efforts organized through an association called Asosiasi Pedagang Pasar Seluruh Indonesia (APPSI). This research based on understanding the concept of social capital can be applied to increase trader’s productivity. There are two cases of main focus in this research. Firstly, the building process of social capital in the Imogiri Market. The institutionalized social capital in the form of community APPSI Imogiri market. Secondly, the implications of social capital on market traders productivity. Basic method of this research/study (consistent) is qualitative method with case study approach using primary data and secondary data, respectively obtained from direct interviews with informants, documentations and related references. The unit of analysis in this research is Imogiri market traders who are members of the community APPSI Imogiri Market, both members and officials. The results of this research indicate social integration among traders grew through the mechanism of volunteer activities such as mutual cooperation, thanksgiving celebration, religious events even visited sick friend or funeral events. These activities have fostered a sense of solidarity and mutual trust become social capital among traders. Social capital is transformed into a collective spirit that drives every social action. Social capital organized through APPSI in order to maximize its benefits. It is a place for traders to develop its capacity through training programs or workshops, advocacy programs or complaint any problems related to the market. Moreover, APPSI establish a network with various stakeholders to develop traditional markets. The efforts were APPSI made prove to increase trader’s productivity. It can be seen by the change of business management that more systematic, improved knowledge, and the utilization of the network as a manifestation of mutual trust thus lowering the cost of cooperate.
