ABSTRACT This research examines the objectivity in journalism using Mary Jane‘s cases as reported in Detik.com. Online journalism which had been intensively reporting about the case of Mary Jane plays a role that proved to be relevant. One of which raised support from various walks of life, both in the virtual and the real world, which resulted the delay of Mary Jane‘s execution. Online petition using the hashtag of savemaryjane was circulated quickly in cyberspace and gained a huge number of support from netizens. This research adopts the traditional theory of objectivity by Westerstahl to see how the principle of objectivity is applied by Detik.com, particularly in the coverage of Mary Jane‘s execution . The application of this principle can then be used to see the quality of the news presented by the media, online media in particular for they are often labeled as not credible and only concerned about the speed rather than accuracy. This method used in this research is descriptive content analysis. The results show that Detik.com had not applied the principle of objectivity related to the news coverage of Mary Jane‘s execution maximally.
