The Legitimacy of Veto Power for the Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council

2016 | Skripsi | Ilmu Hubungan InternasionalABSTRACT The United Nations was a spark of hope to assist and guard peace for the world after the devastation of world wars. However, the established social construction cannot just being transformed as a whole. The great powers that have established a concert maintain their domination in the new world order through the privilege manifested in the veto power given for the Permanent Members of UNSC. This research will first establish the United Nations intended role as a collective security institution. Then, later the author will discuss the veto power and Great Power Concert in order to analyze how the first is the manifestation of the later. Lastly, as a conclusion this research will argues how the current implementation of veto power that is both only serve the Permanent Members’ national interests and even utilized as a form of threat portray how it is no longer a legitimate privilege that harm the United Nations’ international role.
