Abstract This study aims to determine the effectiveness of parenting and parenting children with leukemia were conducted by family and foundations in Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Jogjakarta (YKAKJ). The effectiveness of parenting that do with the purpose that the achievement of healing and improving the quality of life of children with leukemia who live temporarily in the foundation. Recorded in 2012 that every year there are at least 160 thousand children are diagnosed with cancer. Chemotherapy treatment that has the physical and social impact on children that parents should be prepare themselves to regulate the consequences that happened to his son. In terms of education for example, children with cancer, especially leukemia will not focus on school activities. They will lose playing time and learning in formal school because their time is spent on chemotherapy. This causes increasingly alienated children with their social environment The approach used in this study is the concept of parenting by Hourlock and Diana Baumrind, according Steers effectiveness, and quality of life in health dimensions according to Testa and Nackley. These three concepts into a framework of analysis of the effectiveness of parenting and parenting is done by family and YKAKJ. Palliative care that do by the foundation into parenting methods used by the foundation to achieve a cure children with leukemia in YKAKJ. The method used in this research is qualitative research with case study design. The data collection techniques were used that participate observation, observation, interviews, and documentation study. This research took the informant as many as 11 people consisting of a category of parents of children with leukemia, foundation management, employees of the foundation, children's health care specialists and psychologists From this research The result from this research is leukemia patients who stayed in YKAKJ get parenting in the form of palliative care. Palliative care is done by the foundation in cooperation with Dr Sardjito Hospital. Parenting authoritative / democratic predominantly done by families of children with leukemia. So, to achieve a cure and improving the quality of life of children, required discipline in a long time and nutrition of children by parents. The effectiveness of parenting is done between the foundation and also implemented with their parents on child discipline in the treatment of chemotherapy accompanied by the child's activity in improving the quality of life.
