2016 | Skripsi | SosiologiABSTRACT Tattoo already exist in Indonesia long time ago.The Mentawai and Dayak tribe believed to be the first to use tattoo in Indonesia. Not only the Mentawai and Dayak tribe, tattoo is also used by Batak, Bali, Maluku, and Papua tribe. Tattoo on indigenous people is partof their daily life because cultural tattoo is one of the important part of their culture. With the advent of time, cultural tattoo in tribes start to extinct. The youth of tribe community start to interest in popular western tattoo. Concerns about the extinct of cultural tattoo in Indonesia make some urban youth at Jakarta form a community aimed to preserve cultural tattoo of tribes in indonesia. This community named BauTanah Tattoo Museum.In these circumstances, cultural tattoo worn by urbanyouth, not in indegenous environment.This creates cultural tattoo meaningreproduction by this community.With meaning reproduction by the BauTanah Tattoo Museum and the members in it, cultural tattoo change its meaning and its identity. The research was conducted to obtain the cultural tattoo transformation when it worn by members of BauTanah Tattoo Museum who lives in a big cities, Jakarta. Representation theoryby Stuart Hall is used to analyze the transformation of cultural tattoo associated with representation that happen to it. This study done by interview, observation, and take information from photo documentation. The results show that cultural tattoo undergo a transformation from its spiritual nature into a commodity and from its social naturetransform to be just a matter of economical.In addition, meanings contained in a cultural tattoo just be understood by members of this community.
