ABSTRACT Housing is a settlement which is designed for residensial, equipped with public facilities and infrastructurs. One of the housings that proposed by the government is Perumahan Nasional (Perumnas) which intended for low middle class employees. Perumnas is a government’s solution about housing which regulated with law. By the same, the function of the housing shifted into business place. This study is aimed to determine how the function of the housing shifted into a business place through the practice space, and how it is related to the interaction of Perumnas Condongcatur’s people. The researcher try to understand how the process of functional shift from external and internal terms toward of the house, and understand the people when their house are shifted one by one into business place. This study use a qualitative method of observation, interviews and secondary data. The data which resulted in this research explain about the functional shift of house into a business place and affected to the relation of the society. The functional shift of house into a business place ia a space production conducted by Perumnas’ people with the authority to control their house. It is supported with the capital that they have. The government’s regulation of land use has been ignored in that process of functional shift. The impact of the functional shift of housing into a business place the fading of privatization in family relationships. Actually, the independency of the people in doing this functional shift raise the benefits or income for the owner of the business place.responding to this phenomenon, the people find the difficulty to control the interaction in Prumnas Condongcatur’s people.
