Dampak Turn Back Boats Policy Australia terhadap Negara Tetangga dan Tanggapan Dunia Internasional

ABSTRACT The topic of asylum seekers is usually seen as part of the world problems. It especially grows in this global era. However, there are other concerns of illegal immigrant, security. With globalization, almost everything becomes easier, such as transportations and communications. The global interdependent relations have an impact in intense migrations. Occupation could be easier found outside their origin countries. Meanwhile, other certain negative situations could also influence migration, such as poverty, civil wars, and severe catastrophe. An exodus to saver place then occurs. The destinations are usually United States, Europe, Australia, or close neighboring countries. This situation tends to produce refugees. The massive transmigration brought new issues to their host countries. For examples, ambiguous status of refugees, increase in criminality rates, few job offers, and less tax payers. Australia is one of the countries with the illegal immigrants’ issue. They saw illegal immigrant as a threat to their national interest. They came to Australia as refugees and asylum seekers through the sea without proper authorization. It affects how the government makes policies around the illegal immigrants without attracting negative scrutiny from the world. In correlation with their national interest, Australia has a rigid foreign policy to illegal immigrant. One of its policies is the Turn Back Boats Policy. Their concern to the regional security stability in the Asia Pacific also impact in how they view the illegal immigrant because it also affects their relationship with neighboring countries. Australia saw the big population of illegal immigrant in their territory as an evidence of weak borders and that is why it could affect their security. The rigidity of Australia’s way in solving refugee was met with much disapproval of its neighboring countries and its impact affect future relations.
