ABSTRACT This research is an effort to find social space which actually already exist within the society for a long time. Rewangan tradition which translated as part of socio-culture space that constructed by continuous social practice. Space where not only creating collective actions, but also meant a lot to the people as local tradition that need to be continued because it contains various social and cultural values. The continuity of rewangan tradition can not be separated with the historical aspects that shaped it. Thus, there is a long historical process which made the people to live the tradition to the fullest. Using social space framework, this reserch is showing the process of space production on rewangan tradition that happens in Desa Hargomulyo, Gunungkidul. Specifically, this research is using qualitative research method with descriptive approach. The focus on descriptive approach is to learn and understand the phenomena in one societal scope with the right interpretation. Observation, interview, literature review and documentations are the data collection technique used. Main informants in this research are those who are included in the rewangan tradition, which decided based on purposive procedure and snowball technique. The existence of rewangan tradition in Hargomulyo is the result of social production that happens in social space. This tradition is giving real picture of how the role of spaces in human's daily basis and the dynamic that happens inside. Thus, this tradition will not be happened without any spaces that representing it. That is why, social control of the space is needed to keep the continuity of this tradition because by this rewangan tradition the people (perewang) could found implementation of its space. Besides, the tradition that is known as socio-cultural asset, indirectly could also take care and keep the social relation (kinship) within the society.
