ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to research the influence of 1997 Asian financial crisis the to political changes in Malaysia. Malaysia has experienced miracle growth because implementation the New Economic Policy policy get obstacle because the currency depreciation of the ringgit due to 1997 Asian financial crisis. The crisis, provided the opportunity for IMF to offer help to overcome the crisis along with the economic policy package that should be implemented. Unlike other countries in Asia, Malaysia refused such assistance and chose to do Capital Control with different fiscal policies. Although Malaysia refused assistance from the IMF and the fiscal policy package offered, the economic crisis still affecting the economic and political conditions in Malaysia. The emergence of upheaval in the 1999 elections to be the beginning of a revival of the opposition in Malaysia. In 2013 became the worst election for the Barisan Nasional in which for the first time the Barisan Nasional lost in the vote of the opposition. This paper tried to examine the correlation of the 1997 Asian financial crisis with declining support the public of Malaysia against the government of Barisan Nasional.
