ABSTRACT The clothes have a very important for human life, so the clothes became one of the primary human needs that must be met. There is one of the tradition in the Pandere village Sigi regency Central Sulawesi province that still exists unil now. That tradition of processing the bark will be used as clothing, so this tradition is known fuya. Fuya is hereditary tradition of making clothes of the bark in the traditional way, the makers is only women. If the calculated amount of women that still make fuya in Pandere village less and is dominated by old women. Rare find that a young women make fuya. Now the only 6 womens who still make fuya. This research to answer how the role of womens in maintaining the tradition of fuya and why womens in Pandere’s village still maintain the tradition of make fuya. The role of women is very important because this tradition only created by women. Next this research entitled “The role of women fuya maker in keeping the tradition of fuya in Pandere village Sigi regency Central Sulawesi province. This research used the qualitative method with descriptive analysis approach. To get data the researcher interviewed 6 womens still make fuya until now by snowball sample method. It is because only 6 womens who now can still make fuya. The results of this research show that the role of women in maintaining tradition is very large. The role as a maker of fuya and as a teacher for the next generation. Motivation fuya maker womens still maintain the tradition of make fuya because will get economic income and keeping the tradition of sustainability. Keywords : clothes, role of women, fuya tradition
