Memetakan Jaringan Pondok Pesantren Waria Al Fatah Yogyakarta

2016 | Skripsi | SosiologiABSTRACT In Indonesia people perceive waria as a deviation and and think they are violating norms. The rejection from people make waria marginalized. Many waria are not only rejected by people but also by their family. Usually, when waria run away from their family, they don't bring anything like id card and graduate certificate. This is why it is difficult for waria to find a job. Because they are marginalized, waria decided to form an organization. The purpose of the organization is welfare fo waria with the purpose of getting the same rights as other citizens. Nowadays, there are three big waria organization in Yogyakarta. The first one is IWAYO that focuses on health. The second one is KEBAYA that focuses on advocacy. The last one is the Pondok Pesantren Waria Al Fatah that focuses on religion. Because of the different concerns of the organizations, each organization has different networks. The strenghts and impacts of these waria networks contain great sociological interest. This research uses qualitative methods to describe in detail the network of Pondok Pesantren Waria Al Fatah. Garnovetter’s theory about embeddednes and network is used to explain and analyse the waria networks. Besides the theory of Garnovetter about embeddednes network theory is also used in this research. Because this movement is not only about redistributional economics but also about recognition, Nancy Fraser’s theory about the recognition of identity is used in this research as well. The result of this research shows that the Pondok Pesantren Waria Al Fatah has large networks, there are lokal or DIY, nation and international networks. Networks contain many elements. There are NGOs, organizations, prominent figures, academics and the goverment. But, there is also the radical movement of the Front Jihad Islam (FJI). They want to close the Pondok Pesantren Waria Al Fatah. This became a test for the strenght of networking. There was some help from some networks. including LBH, UNISNU and another group who give support for LGBT. But there are other networks who do not give their support and response about this case. It shows that the Pondok Pesantren Waria Al Fatah is just part of some of the networks. If they do not benefit from each other, there is no support nor any response to solve the case with the fundamentalist group. Keywords : Pondok Pesantren, embeddedness, networks, waria.
