In the beginning, Dolalak dance had song lyrics and dance moves of which the aim are as a politic to fight against Dutch and religious mission. The dancers were men and they wore the dance custom resembling the Dutch army, the song lyrics tended to spread Islamic religion using Arabic. The Religious Values which previously became characteristics of the dance changed after independence era. After 1970 era, this dance had a lot of changes. Those changes were the dancers, musical instruments, custom, dance moves, and the essence of performance values. Dolalak dance can be developed by the support of regional government, dance groups, and local society. The development of the dance groups forces Dolalak dance to change being a commodification.
