It becames an opportunity to develop the concept of cultural tourism. Paguyuban Giriloyo is one of the groups that work on it, focusing at batik tulis. The group itself is divided into two smaller categories, the formal group and the informal group. Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta as a province that has many potential as a destination of cultural tourism, helps the paguyuban to keep growing. Other than that, developing cultural tourism also relate to many factors, such as facilities, accesibility, the subject, capital and information. That only means, the group’s economic strategy would play a significant part in helping the paguyuban to grow. This research lean on Lewin’s group dynamics and Tuckman’s group development theories in order to analyze the data. Group dynamics theory explained that the existance of interaction to achieve the collective goals is the foundation for a group to be formed. While the group development concept talked about the steps to achieve the collective goals. Qualitative method is used to acquire deeper information, together with descriptive analytic approach. The reason beyond the choice to use qualitative method is to get to know the group’s dynamic within the paguyuban. While descriptive analytic approach was chosen to understand the trait and character of each groups, which include motivation and conflict between the group as a part of challenges in developing the paguyuban. As a result, the challenges would help them to form their own economic strategy such as assets, production and marketing. As for the economic strategy of formal groups, they can rely more on their legality as a cooperative group to access capital. They can access the capital injections from various institutions. As well as the aspect of production is not much different from capital, but they rely on the sale and purchase of materials to increase income groups. Meanwhile, from the aspect of marketing they rely on their cooperation among groups. It is different from the informal group, they rely more on the results of the sale of batik to obtain capital, while they borrow from the other groups for production and rely on their cooperation among groups . Overall, both formal and informal groups rely on their cooperation among groups and mutual trust in developing the Paguyuban Giriloyo.
