Kampung Turis dan Dampaknya terhadap Pedagang Pasar Tradisional Prawirotaman

ABSTRACT Nowadays, tourism is one of economic sector that growth rapidly. Tourism is believed has great potential for increasing the income of host communities around the tourism area, in which well understood by regional stakeholders as well, in order to increase economic growth in their respective regions. One of the implications of regional tourism development is the increasement of interests in hospitality business or hotels. Nowadays tourism’s trend is switched from mass tourist travel into experiential tourist travel, in which todays’s travelers are looking for an authentic and genuine experience. In Indonesia, one of its embodiment is on the traditional markets, as part of the identity of Indonesian society. There is an authentic elements in it which can be managed into a tourist destination. Close attention to positive and negative impacts of tourism itself is needed to build good tourism management. Positive impact means positive benefits to the socio-economic life of the local community, and negative means the opposite. The purpose of this research is to answer the question : How is the impacts of the growth of Kampung Turis on traders in Prawirotaman Traditional Market? This research’s approach is qualitative. The study was conducted in Prawirotaman Traditional Market in Brontokusuman Village, Mergangsan Subdistrict, Yogyakarta Regency. This traditional market is selected due to its location adjacent to the hospitality areas predicated as "Kampung Turis" in Prawirotaman. The data sources in this study was obtained from informants whom selected by purposive and snowball sampling method. The results showed that traditional traders acknowledge the positive benefits from the existence of Kampung Turis around the market. They got additional income from the sale and purchase transactions conducted by the hotels and restaurants, as well as tourists both locals and foreigners. Traditional traders also showed positive attitude towards the growth of Kampung Turis in their vicinity. However, even they have experienced the ups and downs of their income, which are more influenced by internal factors, they did not economically dependent in this industry. Whereas from the socio cultural dimension, through indicators such as social relationships, social structure and job opportunities in the traditional market, as well as the involvement of traditional traders to Kampung Turis, there is not found any certain changes in it. Changes actually occur in the bargaining transaction character of traditional market that turned into the fixed prices transaction. This is not as part of the impacts of Kampung Turis growth, but as a response from the competition with modern retail around.
