Proses Coming Out Kalangan Transgender Female to Male/Priawan yang Terlibat Aktivisme:(Sebuah Pendekatan Life History)

Abstract Transgender phenomenon in Indonesia have been discussing in sexuality issue, in academic domain indeed. Yet, as the increasing knowledge of sexuality which made sexuality discourse more complex, scholars rarely talking about sexuality discourse. This was a reason why I try to do this research. In this thesis “Coming Out Process of Transgender Female to Male / Priawan whom involved activism”, I try to seek deeper to know transgender FTM‟s life. Priawan is a gender identity term. It was a term means Pria Wanita. Pria means male and Wanita means Female. So, term of Priawan (Pria-Wanita) means a person whose identify their-self as a man who born with female body but have a man identity. This phenomenon will explain with life history method. This method will give explanation and description about two Priawan , whose trying to be their-self. First, they try to make a self-affirmation and then they found their gender identity. Then, their gender identity make them have their identity concept. That process we called with coming out process. What kind of coming out? The process of coming out not just about verbal affirmation in society, for example : “I‟m a gay” or “I‟m a lesbian”. But also coming out was a process that have struggled history and experiences. And then compromised with their-self. This research become more interesting because it‟s not just talk about transgender Priawan’s process of coming out but also in activism perspective. This research giving us an explanation and description how they could found their identity in activism sphere. They were involved in a movement of Human Rights, such as a movement that talked about women and labour issues.
