ABSTRACTION This study aims to to elaborate construction of meaning about communism through a unassuming event: a conflict of rejection towards “the look of silence” movie in fisipol ugm. This conflict involving two parties in contrary: Lembaga Penerbitan dan Pers Mahasiswa (LPPM) SINTESA and Forum Ummat Islam (FUI). This movie expected as a movie which represents some content suspected as communism by FUI. This refusal drag out the curiosity of writer as researcher to examine how construction about communism developed, thus yield a distinct response from those contrary parties. The study is done by scraping data from chronology, ideological views, and common perspectives of informants. This research also utilize literature study related to G30S, communism, and Islamism in Indonesia. After gathered, those data then elaborated in sociological scope of discussion through some perspective: Peter L. Berger with constructivism, and Mannheim’s ideology and utopia. Afterall, this research concludes that construction of meaning about something, everything, always reproducible in social life. Someone’s presumption at something determined by social construction that keeps recurred towards him in his routine life until he approved that it is “reality”, thus, became a part of this construction. This case is an ideological conflict between groups that each of them agreed different presumptions direction over the same thing. In this case, knowledge as an origin of a movement or response was built by Berger’s social construction of reality process, and segmented by ideas concept of Mannheim.
