ABSTRACT Public relations activities like an obligation that must be carried out for the institution or company. Its roles are different for each institution depends on the definition of Public Relations that understood by holders of the relevant authorities. There‟s inly a few public relations in high school institutions that implement activities properly. Most of them just put the position of public relations in technical matters only. This has become background of this study, where the State Senior High School 6 of Yogyakarta makes public relations as one of the holders of high office within the institution. Public Relations management performed in the high school in order to maintains the title of "research school" that acquired through a many achievements, whereas before this high school is known for their students that very naughty and likes to brawl. Like the phrase "clean up your act, not just your image" it is also done to improve the image. The purpose of this study was to determine the public relations management in State Senior High School 6 of Yogyakarta to maintain the title of "research school" to improve achievement. Just as various studies on the phenomenon to be more profound, the method used is qualitative descriptive case study. The results showed that the Public Relations in State Senior High School 6 of Yogyakarta implement a four-step of public relations management, namely research, planning, action and communication, evaluation. They use the analysis of S.W.O.T. and stakeholders in research to determine the strategy that will be performed on the stages of planning, until the evaluation stage. The position of Public Relations in State Senior High School 6 of Yogyakarta held various managerial roles of policy makers (expert presciber), problem solving facilitator, communication facilitator,and technical problem.
