ABSTRACT Organization or corporate environment is changing very quickly today. Social, economic and national politics as well as global has created an environment where openness becomes unavoidable if the organization is want to survive. Life organization relies heavily with other organizations in a wider environment. Public critical observations against the company are likely to increase. The public which part of stakeholders are important for survival of the organization. If the public feel what is delivered or expected of the organization were not match, then it could be a trigger in the issues that have the potential to inhibit the activity of the organization. Therefore, the management needs to understand the organization's relationship with the environment and how this can lead to issues. This is done by the Department of Public Relations of PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) when the issue of ‘Sungai Merah’ that occurred in Bontang drag the name of the company to finally get involved. Public inquisitive ask clarity to the company through the media, NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), the Parliament, BLH (Environment Agency), and other agencies to determine whether a phenomenon that happens to be true due to the dye-owned fertilizer Pupuk Kaltim. News spread by the massive and made headlines in various local and national media. Pupuk Kaltim through the PR department needs to act immediately provide clarity and confirmation of the news before the issue turns into a crisis that will hurt the company. This study assesses the role of the Department of Public Relations of PT Pupuk Kaltim in Management Issues through Media Relations.
