ABSTRACT This undergraduate thesis was about Social Movement Institute (SMI) strategy to empower the youth activists in Yogyakarta during 2013-2013. It became interesting because the decreasing of activism in post Soeharto era, along with the weaken of political activity among youth. This condition encouraged SMI to give them space to discuss and make change. They tried to help youth to do movement by showing them social and political reality in society. This research was guided by the main research questions: "How the SMI empower the youth activists in Yogyakarta during 2013-2014?" So that, it led us to understand the dynamics of social and political roles of civil society organization in this kin of era. Therefore, to answer this question, researches used qualitative method in study case mode. So that the researches could observe the subject deeply enough without making any distance. The research found that this organization offered innovative ideas which could change youth activists’ point of view in seeing issues or cases around them. Through publication, political education and real-life action , they help youth activists frame unite, and, organize’their movement in better way.
