This bachelor thesis discusses about the role of European Union as a normative power in bilateral relations scheme with the third country (non-European Union member). Particularly, this thesis tries to examine the diffusion process of the democratic and human rights norms in Indonesia, which are categorized as the core norms of European Union. By utilizing the concept of „normative power‟ developed by Ian Manners, the diffusion process of democratic and human rights norms can be observed via six forms of diffusion, which are contagion, informational, procedural, transference, overt and cultural filter. The main argument offered in this thesis is that the normative power of European Union towards Indonesia is reflected through its policies and programmes in the field of democracy and human rights which are executed by the use of those six diffusion forms. The programmes such as Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) and European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) are examples of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union that demonstrate the normative power of European Union.
