Pergeseran Tradisi Megengan (Studi Tentang Pergeseran Tradisi Megengan Di Ndalem Mangkubumen)

One of the rituals which is still held by Javanese society is Ruwahan, a ritual which is held once in a year before Ramadhan. There aretwo important tradition in Ruwahan, Megengan tradition and Nyadran tradition. The focus of this study is on Megengan as this tradition is the first step of Ruwahan and there is a glorious philosophy meaning on it. Every element of offening combination on Megengan has its own meaning as well. Furthemore, Megengan is as the symbol of apology, the relationship within society and the society’s effort to keep harmony in life. However as the time goes by and era has changed, Megengan has changed on its meaning and procession among the society. This study took place at Ndalem Mangkubumen, Kadipaten Wetan village, Kadipaten urban community, Kraton subdistric, Yogyakarta. This study aims to answer the process of Megengan tradition change at Ndalem Mangkubumen and the reason of Ndalem Mangkubumen society still having this tradition until now. This study applies Rationality theory, theory of Rational Choice and theory of Komodification to analyze Megengan change. This study is qualitative study using descriptive method. The data is collected by observation, interview and documentation. The informants of this study is the society of Ndalem Mangkubumen. The result of the study shows the change has been happening from 1980 until now. By using periodic step, the changing process can be seen.the change is cause by the society of Ndalem Mangkubumen itself. The change on Megengan tradition arises as the result of the adjustment of tradition and the changing era. The changing formsare the philosopy meaning, the procession, the time, the value and the combination or uborampe of the offering on Megengan tradition, the society of Ndalem Mangkubumen is still having this tradition because of many reason. The change arises the new pattern of action on Ndalem Mangkubumen society when they do Megengan tradition. Key word: form of change, change, periodic, Megengan tradition.
