Women Empowerment : A Process To End Gender Based Violence In Post Genocide Rwanda

Gender Based Violence has always become a global issues, especially for women. In Rwanda itself, GBV happens because of the history of violence, and the patriartrichal society that happens and affected Rwanda as a nation. This issue become more dangerous when the 1994 genocide between Hutus and Tutsi hit the country, the victims of GBV became widespread, and the impact of this act of violence disrupt the country from the social, economical, and political point of view, making GBV become an inevetable cases in the country. However, women suprisingly rise as victim of genocide and brings a greater chance to this country, including the transformation that women brought to eradicate the issue of GBV. Based on that, this research would like to discuss the process of GBV eradication and transformationt through women empowerment process. Thus, this research use the concept of Gender Based Violence and Women Empowerment to explain the phenomena that happens in Rwanda. Gender based Violence concept explain of the nature of culture and patriarchy as the root of the issue. the eradication process will be explain through three level analysis. The individual empowerment, close relationship (family) empowerment, and collective empowerment.(NGO, IOs, Society) These three concept will uncover the process of eradication of GBV not only by using women as the key actor, but also the coorperation of women using women capabilities and awarness to engage with herself and other actors such as the state, NGO/IOs and society, Both of women empowerment and GBV concepts will uncover the challange and the process in the eradication of GBV in Rwanda Keywords :Gender Based Violence, Patriarchy, Women Empowerment, Eradication Process
