Strategi Eksistensi Industri Genteng Sokka :(Studi kasus di Desa Kebadongan, Klirong, Kebumen)

Large numbers of workers are not comparable to the availability of jobs, causing unemployment. “Sokka” tile industry in Kebadongan village, Klirong, Kebumen emerged as a result of the limitations of rural livelihoods. As other villages in Indonesia, livelihood sources in Kebadongan still limited in the agricultural sector. Therefore, the emergence of the roof tile industry could be an alternative income source. This research aims to determine the strategy undertook by the tile industry in Kebadongan village in order to keep providing the livelihood options in rural areas. Data collection technique used in this research is qualitative while the data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and documentation. Interviews were conducted among 10 people, 5 of them are tile industry employers who selected by snowball method, the other five persons are selected purposively i.e two employees of “Sokka” industry, one official of Department of Industry, Trade and Market Management, one officer of Kebadongan village and one tile businessmen form outside Kebadongan. Data validity technique used in this research is credibility test i.e triangulation of sources, comparing and checking the degree of information obtained through different time and different informants. The results of the research showed that the presence of the tile industry provides many benefits, namely the emergence of entrepreneurs tile as a countryside entrepreneur which could be the motor of the economy in rural areas, as well as many people can earn income from industry activities such as by being production workers, drying tile workers, encombustion tile workers, tile-sales workers, clay sellers, wood sellers, and red brick sellers. Aside from providing benefits, the presence of tile industry still hold many weaknesses such as the limited availability of capital, the less of raw materials, and the relatively small income of workers. Despite weaknesses, the tile industry today is able to survive as an option of rural livelihoods. The industry adapt and using the weaknesses to be adjusted with opportunity in order to be able to survive until today. Their efforts are done through limited-capital management strategy i.e “nandon” raw materials; maintain relationship between employers-workers to keep loyalty; and “nggletak” marketing strategy.
