ABSTRACT Tourism sector is one of the sectors which assessed easily be used by women in order to increase women‟s empowerment. However, responding to the issue, there are two conflicting opinion. First opinion states that only the tourism sector which is managed by government was the one that can empower women. On the other hand, second opinion states that the empowerment of women in the tourism sector is feasible without government interference, one of which is conducted with CBT (Community Based Tourism). Therefore, research on the impact of the implementation of CBT to women's empowerment in a tourist destination is important to do. Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran is a one of the tourist destinations located in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta and managed with CBY system. To know about the impact of the implementation of CBT to women's empowerment in the tourism destinations, conducted observation and in-depth interviews to women in Nglanggeran village and managers of the tourist destinations. Results of observation and interview to the informant then analyzed using six domains empowering women by researchers from JSI after mapping the role and contribution of women in the planning stage, development, management and evaluation stage. The observation and search information on the location of the research shows that it is true that the system managed using CBT, local women in Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran increased power compared to the condition before emerging tourist destinations. However, the increase in women's empowerment is still just within the scope of the increase in revenue and about the involvement of women-owned independent business so that the impact is only felt by women while that have an independent business while that does not have an independent business did not increase women's empowerment.
