Abstract The Roles Of Social Capital In Gapoktan Productivity at Kabupaten Madiun Dian Ayu Puspitasari, Dra. Ambar Teguh Sulistyani, M.Si Gabungan kelompok tani (Gapoktan) is one of farmer empowerment to develop agricultural sector. The members of Gapoktan will get benefit if Gapoktan can be productive and try to achieve their goals. Productivity in Gapoktan is how much Gapoktan can achieve their goals. One of the factors supporting Gapoktan to achieve their goal is social capital as a resource owned by the community. It consists of trust, norms and networks. This research focused on the contribution of social capital in achieving the goals of Gapoktan Kenongorejo and Gapoktan Sambirejo at Kabupaten Madiun. The qualitative with case study approach was selected in this research. Data were taken with interviews to relevant persons and secondary data were added to reinforce the result of research. Findings indicate the existence of social capital in Gapoktan which are shown in members participation, members responsibilities, the rules applied in Gapoktan, exchange of information and cooperation in Gapoktan. Furthermore, the social capital contributes to the productivity of Gapoktan. Contribution of trust in productivity can be seen in Gapoktan Kenongorejo because of their efforts to achieve common goals. But, there are weaknesses of Gapoktan in the network where the external network has not been widely held to support the achievement of the goal of Gapoktan. On the other hand, contribution of network in productivity can be seen in Gapoktan Sambirejo. It is because of the large external networks which affect to the variations of Gapoktan activities. But, excessive of trust and dominance of Gapoktan chairman affect on producitivity which can not be seen in a real and it triggers the emergence of irregularities in Gapoktan, such as the dependence to the chairman and the consideration of chairman as the Gapoktan owner. Therefore, revitalization of social capital is needed to rebuild Gapoktan and members participation to overcome future irregularities.
