ABSTRACT Kliwonan Night Market is a kind of tradition that emerged from the shifts of treatment ritual in Batang Regency in the past. Kliwonan Night Market consists of several components including Batang people, Batang Regency Government Programs and Kliwonan Night Market street vendors. Every component has their interest in Kliwonan Night Market. Component activities of Kliwonan Night Market show dynamic activity in the Kliwonan Night Market. And the question of the research is how does dynamics of trade occurred on the Kliwonan Night Market? This study uses Talcott Parsons‟s Structural-Functional Theory with the concept of AGIL (adaptation, goal attainment, integration, latency) and Rational Choice Theory, to see how Kliwonan Night Market structure‟s components maintaining the structure while they are fulfill their needs in Kliwonan Night Market with activities that are rational. This study also uses qualitative methods included observation and in-depth interviews approach, with the main samples from Kliwonan Night Market street vendor and another Kliwonan Night Market stakeholder such as Batang Regency Government and Batang Regency square street vendors community. The conclusions of this study are (1) Implementation of Kliwonan Markets has been going for generation to generation, and has shifted from traditional activity into modern trading activities, the shifts process is gradually , but substantially traditional values such as “ngalap berkah” is still exist, even the context has interpreted as a blessing in financial income through economic activities, and even in the modern era this tradition is still maintained by the community; (2) The obstacle occurred in latency function due to the dynamics of society that began to develop in to rational thought, especially in need fullfilling, where this condition will continue to occur and further developed in the community; (3) The shift of Kliwonan Night Market culture showed by the changes in the structure, which is shifts from open into a compermentalized structure where the actions of each component based on their respective interests and also based on the rational choices.
