ABSTRACT The earthquake that happened in Bantul Residence 8 years ago, on May 24th 2006, has resulted in survivors who suffered from permanent physical disabilities. One of the disabilities was backbone sensoric damage that resulted in the malfunction of Parapeglia function, or the Paraparase function. It is not easy for these people who are now considered as “people with disability” to live the post-earthquake lives. However, disabilities do not dim the spirit of these post-earthquake survivors. The effort to overcome with disabilities relies on on the survivors endeavor to be friend with their new “physical status”. The research aim to provide a discussion above the process of selfimage development inside the disabled people community post-Bantul earthquake in 2006. Descriptive qualitative research methods is used and it became a tool for this research so that it will be able to targeted personal informans. In choosing the informans, this research used snowball approach to better match the research target with research purpose. There are 5 survivors from Bantul resindence who served as informans on this research. Self observation has been done for research purpose and findings are people with disabilities who are honest and being trus to themselves has made has made a positive self image of who their trully are. The post-earthquake people with disabilities are unique in the disabilitiy studies issue from sociologycal perspective. Although their body are disabled, it is through self acceptance endeavor that leads them to carry on, and living the live with society just like what they used to be.
