Komik Merebut Kota Perjuangan sebagai Instrumen Politik Pencitraan Soeharto

One of the comics that Soeharto used to brand his figure is a comic titled “Merebut Kota Perjuangan”. The question in this research is: How Soeharto figure branded in comic “Merebut Kota Perjuangan” in the New Order of his era? In the comic Soeharto imaged as smart, brave and wise commander. In this research, the writer use the theory of Van Dijk that explains about discourse analysis. This analysis is to process the language and the use of language to obtain and show a more explicit description and systematic about the comic and Soeharto branding. As for the logic of thinking, the writer use the Historiography. This method is to reconstruct the past event through data and critically test that will build the exact event in the past. The results showed that the comic Merebut Kota Perjuagan clearly used by Suharto to portray himself as a hero. The Branding is shown in various scenes in the comic and also in the comic dialogue. Soeharto also was the key figure that made the plan in Serangan Umum 1 Maret. He also the main character that makes the attack result succeed. Soeharto as the main character in the comic is not very important, because there is also many character that have more role and more important than him. That’s why this comic can be explained as Soeharto branding politic to public. The branding politics by Soeharto through comic is very effective, because comics is very popular and easy to read. So, Soeharto can easy to insert the message and to convince people in Indonesia, that he is the big hero through comic Merebut Kota Perjuangan. The conclusion of this research is that in comic Merebut Kota Perjuangan, the character of Soeharto is more important than other character. And Soeharto looks like a big hero to people of Indonesia. Also, the distribution of this comic is massive to various places in Indonesia. This is the way, to make public opinion to Soeharto that he is a big hero. The distribution of comic Merebut Kota Perjuangan cover almost all libraries in elementary, junior high, high school, and also in public library. Key Words: Branding Politics, comic, Soeharto
