This young nation civil war erupted when elite leadership President Salva Kiir Maryadit and Vice President Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon begin contesting on power struggle with each other and exploiting their communicty ethnical emotions to get supports from their tribes and human resource for war. It causes thousands civilians deaths and millions were became displaced in neighboring countries.This conflict in 2013 categorized as one of the deadliest political conflict in Africa. Flashback in the history of South Sudan, political conflict that turned into ethnical war in South Sudan occured in 1991, causing a massive ethnic massacres.This indicates that civil war in 2013 was not a singular event, civil war that occured in 2013 was not the beginning of something new, it was rather the climax of several concomitant violent processes which had taken different forms and had occured on different levels.Therefore, the question is focused on what causes the recurrance of the civil war in South Sudan in 2013? Using the concept of vicious cycles of conflict and economic and political theories of violence, this paper is aiming to analyze the recurrence of the civil war in South Sudan in 2013. The results shows that weak institutions in accomodating the needs of civilian and the inability to handle internal and external stresses, plays as a strong factor in causing the high rates of violence and civil war repeated.
