ABSTRACT Jordan River in the Middle East gives an example of a complex case of inter-state relations among countries that share the same water resource. Jordan River is a hydrological system which passes through three countries, namely Jordan and Israel (including the Palestinian Authority). Historically, water-related dispute had become one of the most inherent conflict between the countries of the Jordan River valley. Tension and struggle for control over water resources causing a prolonged unstable political condition. In this situation, an NGO named Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME) emerged because of the rise of concerns related to the lack of agreement related to joint management over the Jordan River in the region and the imbalance of power that control the river which at times can lead to a larger conflict. This thesis will be assessing the prospect of FoEME to engaged in the peacebuilding effort to foster the community that resides at Jordan Valley towards positive peace. Along with Good Water Neighbors project's mission, FoEME aim to promote cooperation through shared management of Jordan Valley as a way to perpetuate peace. The first chapter contains an introduction, starting from the background of the problem, the formulation of the question, the conceptual basis, the main argument, the method of research, the study period, and writing systematic. The second chapter contains a brief history of conflict related disputes that took place in the Jordan River Valley, peacebuilding efforts and conflict resolution that has been done to date, as well as the profile of FoEME and their projects. The third chapter will analyze further about FoEME’s prospect based on the effectiveness of their strategy to overcome the problems that found in the field. The fourth chapter is the conclusion of this study and some recommendations to the problems found.
