In 2010, for the first time, China imported more than 50 percent of its oil consumption.Some of its oil imports are sourced from Middle East and Africa and these are transported through the Indian Ocean. The global oil shipping system transports oil from some of the world’s most unstable areas. Chinese analysts see the security of its shipping, particularly of its energy imports, as important. China is concerned about its growing dependence on the sea lanes of communications for sustaining China’s economic growth. Moreover, China try reducing its dependence on the Strait of Malacca.These factor heavily influence China’s relations with its southern neighbors along the Indian Ocean littoral, especially Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. China intends to maintain presence in the Indian Ocean and that Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Myanmar will play an important role that startegy. China is now engaging through its investments and commercial initiatives. Now, China is engaging with significant projects. China build several ports and expanding her external pipelines network on those countries to diversify its oil import routes.An increasing presence in the Indian Ocean is to strengthening its energy security by spread her influence throught economic based-diplomacy and Maritime Silk Road. Through these strategies, China try to create a suitable condition for her oil tanker fleet. Due to china objectives in energy security and growing dependence on sea lines communications, her presence in the Indian Ocean become inevitable.
