ABSTRACT PESANTREN AND DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL CULTURE By DHONA ADYATMA 10/302260/SP/24274 There is enough research about correlation between pesantren and democracy. But at this time democracy more often defined in procedural way. Moreover, democracy will more tasty if appreciated in transcendental way. Because there dignity, freedom, and responsibility is. So it is not fortuity if democracy have been spread out through Islamic values. Because Islam believed not only have mean appreciation to the human race as ‘khalifah fil ardl’, but also appreciate to the inner feeling (transcendental). In pesantren, ‘santri’ not only have to learn about science (especially Islamic science), but also learned about attitude (akhlaq al karimah) and social fiqh as representation of democratic civil society. Moreover, pesantren typical political culture be important factor to support arise and evolve democratic values. Through pesantren typical political culture, democratic values arised and evolved through scientific or salafi tradition that established in lifetime of pesantren itself.
