ABSTRACT Mass media as the fourth estate have a very important role for the society and the state. Even the mass media have the contribution for national development. The strength and important position of the mass media giving consequences a huge responsibility to the society, government, and mass media itself. One of them is to be a source for society and observer for government’s performance. Mass media have the right to evaluate the government’s performance and report it to the society through the news. Their summary in what called kaleidoscope news, where mass media evaluate the government’s performance during a year. This is a research of news content analysis in kaleidoscope news made by Kompas, it called year-end special report. The research is focus in news construction made by Kompas in year-end special report. The main goal could see and describe clearly about what had been done by Kompas with the construction about government’s performance in economic for five years as it still under command of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Selection of events during five years could show us the agenda setting of Kompas.
