2014 | Skripsi | Ilmu KomunikasiABSTRACT As the only Indonesian State-Owned Enterprise listing in the New York Stock Exchange, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk must comply with all regulations from the exchange and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). They should as well face the foreign shareholders with diverse interests, expectations, and cultural backgrounds. Therefore, the company appoints the Investor Relations (IR) Unit to manage a good relationship with shareholders through effective communication management. The main objective of this research is to perceive the IR communication management in managing the foreign shareholders amidst the challenge of the rising complexity upon communication activity that should be done. The study is also aimed at knowing which kind of information needed by the shareholders, of which will also influence the type of information to be delivered by the Investor Relations Unit. This research uses Case Study Method through direct observation, interviews, archival documents, and documentation related to communication management of the Investor Relations Unit. This research combined two key concepts in order to explain how the communication management is being done by the IR Unit, namely the Four Stages of Strategic Investor Relations from NASDAQ and Communication Management Approach from Cutlip, Center, and Broom, assisted by Stakeholder Theory belongs to James E. Grunig. The study shows that the communication management has been done through the stages of structured activity, but the researcher found a trend in the IR Unit to focus more directly on the institutional shareholders which dominate the public ownership of Telkom. Moreover, this study finds that the communication activity has been carried out in accordance with the applicable international business standard, although the cultural differences and characteristics of each shareholder has not been considered. As for the foreign shareholder's information needed, the IR Unit has adjusted it according to the type of investment and the type of information requested. In addition, the IR Unit always provides a variety of reports in the format required by the NYSE and the U.S. SEC.
