Abstract Recently, information and communication technology has developed rapidly and thoroughly. These developments impact on the development of the Internet in society. Most of the Indonesian people can now enjoy cheap and easily accessible internet. In addition, the Internet can also be used by almost all people, both in cities and in villages. Ease of access to the Internet and bustle lead most people prefer to interact through the medium of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). Today, seeing a person or group of people are absorbed in watching their screen gadgets sidelines of activities are a regular sight. People who are connected through the CMC will enter a world called Cyberspace. In Cyberspace conventional concepts such as community can be applied. A group of people who have similar geographic, pleasure, and other interests can get together and form a virtual community or the Virtual Community. Today many facilities that support the formation of virtual communities, one group in facebook. Someone who has limited self-actualization in the offline environment can now do so in a virtual community. This study aims to determine how the role of online communities as a medium of self-actualization for its members. The online community is selected is The Otaku Network, which is a community facility that utilizes a facebook group as a virtual community media. In this study, researchers used a qualitative approach with methods of Virtual Ethnography. Virtual ethnographic methods used as a place of research in the form of a Virtual Community. To obtain the data, researchers conducted interviews and observation role-as well. Based on this research, it is known that the Virtual Community, in this study is the Otaku Network, has a role in achieving self-actualization of its members. The visible role in fulfilling the needs. Requirement referred to in this research is according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Of all the role of virtual communities, the most prominent role is the fulfillment of social needs and the need for an esteem. Keywords: Virtual Community, Self-Actualization, Facebook, Otaku.
