2014 | Skripsi | Ilmu KomunikasiABSTRACT The limited situation of analogue television broadcasting makes Indonesian government draw down the digital television broadcasting into a set of policy. Unfortunately, information about this policy still rarely spread. The knowledge of society as its potential audience is questionable. However, this issue is easier understood by who involved in communication field, such as Communication Department student. When talking about Communication Department Student as the youth, we will shortly know that there is a high media use among them. If it is associated with the exclusivity of policy information, there is a chance that the student use the media to access this issue. The nature of audiences is always wants to know the latest information and one of the reasons of media use is seeking information. Then, I have an interest to see how is the Communication Department of Universitas Gadjah Mada student’s knowledge of this policy and how they use media in order to access the same issue. This department was chosen because it is one of the Communication Departments with the best media study. Therefore, the method that used is survey, which can represent the results of the population. Media that most often used to access policy information is internet. Talking about the number of media used, majority of respondents gained the very low score category. The same category also dominates in frequency and the duration of media use. Their interest to access this policy information through media is mostly neutral. Meanwhile, mostly respondent knowledge score about this policy is in low category. The Media and Journalism respondent average score is higher than Strategic Communication’s. When the correlation of media use to access policy information with respondent knowledge is analyzed, the number and frequent of media use have a weak correlation with respondent knowledge, while the duration of media use do not. The media use, respondent knowledge and the correlation between these two variables can be influenced by many factors, both from audience and media side, that create a complex situation of media use. The proof of the influence of these factors needs a more complex and deep research. Keywords: media use, knowledge, digital television broadcasting policy, audience, youth.
