ABSTRACTION In the last decade, disasters come and go hit Indonesia. Disasters, both that occured due to natural factors or as a result of human activity have damaged various regions in Indonesia. Earthquake and Tsunami in Aceh (2004), Earthquake in Yogyakarta (2006), Earthquake in West Sumatra (2009), and the eruption of Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta (2010) are some examples of the colossal disaster that ever hit Indonesia. From All of those disasters, the latter becoming the most catastrophic one and because of that, attracting so much public attention. That disaster became so popular not only because the disaster itself, but also the chaotic condition that created by the media due to many errors in the coverage, from the false information to the way the crews behave themselves in location. As a disaster-prone country. the quality of journalism in covering the disaster becomes very important. Thas is because journalism play an important role in society and more become important in disaster event. This research talks about the peformance of television during merapi eruption, back in october – november 2010. The research want to see the implementation of the standars of journalism through Denis McQuail’s media performances combined with the principles of disaster journalism in Breaking News” Coverage on two televisions stations : Metro TV and tvOne.
