Abstract Turun Tangan is a movement initiated by Anies Baswedan. It was established in February 2013 as a social movement. However, in its development, this movement expands its activity into the political arena by declaring its support for Anies Baswedan at the Democratic Convention in 2014. This movement is active in Twitter to accommodateits publication and interaction needs. @turuntangan account once posted a total of 100 tweets every day and created 60 Twitter accounts for groups of volunteers from various regions These facts have attracted the researcher’s in terest in the sign ificance of Twitter for Turun Tangan movement. If used intensively and for a long period of time, Twitter, of course,is not a tool anymore, it now has transformed into a medium. It means that Twitter with its entire characteristics as a new medium provides benefits both for the continuity of TurunTangan and the society as the recipients of its messages. Therefore, the researcher conducted a study on the use of Twitter by Turun Tangan movement. Twitter accompanies the dynamics of Turun Tangan movement. This movement had experienced a number of periods, namely as a social movement, as a mass movement supporting Anies Baswedan, and as a socio-political movement. All of these periods are evident from the tweets that @turuntangan account has posted. Especially when it expanded into the political arena, Twitter played a vital role in helping the introduction of TurunTangan movement to the internet community a.k.a. netizens who at that time still did not talk much about politics. The interactive character of Twitter has successfully triggered political participation of the public, especially young people. Turun Tangan was introduced through online media which most users are young people. Through the interactivity of Twitter, Turun Tangan with intensively provides political education for the public to raise their optimism for clean politics and healthy campaigns. Administrators of @turuntangan keep deliver ing such messages one of which through twitalk with the volunteers in an event entitled “#TanyaRelawan”. Turun Tangan provides political education which makes the general public who at first know nothing finally become informed, realize, and then move to volunteer. Its volunteers’ active participation in deve lop ing this movement is an example of political participation of the civil society. Twitter is not the only online medium used by this movement. Turun Tangan has also created a web page, i.e. turuntangan.org, which is used as the landing page of various online media used and the entrance to volunteer. Still, Twitter is the medium which plays an important role in directing the public to volunteer by making Turun Tangan a hot topic among netizens.
