Kokusanka dalam Industri Pertahanan Jepang:(Studi kasus Pengembangan Mitsubishi F2 Multirole Fighter

ABSTRACT Japan is well-known as state with high level of technological advancement if we compare it with another state in the region of Asia. But Japan’s technological advancement in the field of non-defense did not move along with the defense technology. Defeated in World War 2 change Japan’s to “peace country” and has defensive orientation. Japan’s defensive orientation and the important role of Japan’s defense industries in supporting Japan’s military power in World War 2 make Japan defense industry today did not run like the normal state. These conditions did not deter the Japanese to be able to conduct research, development and production of defense product independently. Japan has unwritten policy that called kokusanka or domestic production in research, development, and production of armament. By lifting a case study about the development of F2 Multirole Fighter, this thesis will discuss about the implementation of kokusanka in Japan defense industries, the challenge japan faced in political aspect both domestic and international, and also the opportunities of Japan to be able to produce their own weapons.
