ABSTRACT The rapid increase in population and changes in consumer preference cause the changes in consumption patterns towards animal protein, including beef. Beef production rate in Indonesia can not fulfill the demand rate, therefore import is necessary. This is indicated by the increase of beef imports. In this condition, barriers of trade is needed to reduce Indonesia’s dependency from beef exporter countries. The objectives of this research is to analyze the factors that affect beef imports in Indonesia by using secondary data from 2000 to 2011. Based on the estimation, the variables that affect the beef imports in Indonesia are real GDP per capita of exporter countries, Indonesia’s real GDP per capita, real exchange rate, international real beef price and Indonesia real beef price, while beef production in Indonesia and exporter countries did not affect the import of beef in Indonesia. Keywords: Beef, GDP, prices, imports.
