ABSTRACT The emergence of several village tourism villages in Bantul Regency was an idea on for to create an area that is in a village to be develop. One of the village tourism which has developed and become the only village with the potential of leather craft is Manding village in Bantul. Manding village is a form of tourist objects which begins from the will of the community, managed by the community and aims to boost the economy of the community. Communities play an important role in the development and management of tourism so that the role of the community development is in accordance with the aim and does not conflict with the customs or culture of the community. The community participation is the success key in developing village tourism. They can participate on planning, implementation, and controlling. This research was conducted to find out and describe the extent of public participation in the development of Manding village tourism. The method that is used in this research is qualitative method with case study approach. For data collection, the observation, interview, and documentation techniques were used. These three techniques were used to get the data that is needed for this research so that able to answer the research questions stated before. The results of research that has been conducted on Public Participation in the Development of Manding Village Tourism show the people, in the development of village tourism, have been on the ladder of Citizen Control. The participation of the Citizen Power chart is on the management of Karya Sejahtera that is established in 2007. Although it was already on the participation of The Citizen Power, but it is important to evaluate that in the development activities not all people is also involved. Therefore, the manager should be able to create community involvement system evenly through the circulation of engagement. With the circulation of involvement, the people who are other than craftsmen can participate in various development activities and could get benefit from the activities they had done.
