Mural art can be a medium of visual communication that can advocate for the people and the government , because the mural has many benefits if managed positively. In Yogyakarta there is a sociocultural force that is not seen as a strength, but it was instead regarded as a nuisance. Derajad also said that this power should be interpreted positively by the city government. Murals as a form of advocacy media can accommodate the aspirations of the community or even in the planning of mural can also involve citizens and government. The mural has created a space for dialogue between people of different levels, either directly or indirectly. That is communication between the various artists , citizen and the government. The purpose of this research was to know how far the role of artists , people views and the government's response to the mural as part of the advocacy for public policy in the city of Yogyakarta as well as to know what kind of mural wall painting art that can be a good advocate for the people and the Yogyakarta city goverment. The research method used was a qualitative research method. Qualitative research methods were used so the researchers were able to explore murals as part of a public policy advocacy in the city of Yogyakarta. The mural has been able to become part of Yogyakarta society advocacy. It is not separated from the role of the artist who originally wanted to make the public space as a place to voice their problems that far away from the attention of the Government and the community itself. The role of the artist as a facilitator for the community can be said quite successful. A lot of people participate to crate a mural in their kampong or even in a public space outside their neighborhood. But the government more receiving murals as a way to beautify the city rather than expression of aspirations, criticism and even resistance to the government. Keyword: Advocation, Mural, Policy.
