Conventional approach has failed to provide integrated solution, while top down of which characteristic lies on its command and control function in planning, organization as well as implementation has also failed to involve local communities in its conservation efforts. Environmental degradation in watershed leads local community who live around watershed to take participative action in conservation efforts through what-so-called community based conservation (CBC), one is manifested in environmental education based tourism program developed by local community. This study aims to understand management functions and to examine resource management aspects that are carried out through community based approach in Kelurahan Bener and Kricak, Yogyakarta. The result of this study shows that the four management functions (planning, organizing, actuating and controlling) have been implemented well with local community as its main actor. While local government (Pemerintah Kota Yogyakarta) and Forum Komunikasi Winongo Asri (local NGO) take role as facilitator. Six aspects of community based conservation has been met by both Kelurahan Bener and Kricak. Those six aspects include equity, empowerment, conflict resolution, knowledge and awareness, biodiversity protection and sustainable utilization.
